ECOLOGIC STUDIO

Claudia Pasquero and Marco Poletto are co-founders of ecoLogicStudio an architectural and urban design studio involved in digital design and architecture research for the definition of a new ecology of space and behavior.
Located in the east of London the studio has built up an international reputation for its innovative work on systemic design, a method defined by the combination and integration of systemic thinking, computational design, bio-hacking and digital prototyping. This broadened approach to design – ranging from the micro to the macro and from nanotechnologies to urban networks – is embodied into an experimental practice, where projects and installations become laboratories of interactions. Locally activated design protocols synthesize a form of expanded hyper-reality hacking larger organizational systems.Claudia Pasquero and Marco Poletto are active academics; they have been unit master at the Architectural Association in London, and are currently studio directors at the IAAC in Barcelona, as well as visiting critics at Cornell University.

Claudia is leader of the MArch in Urban Morphogenesis at Bartlett UCL and, with Marco, co-director of the BIO-UD Research Cluster at UCL Bartlett in London.
Their projects have been published and exhibited throughout the world, in particular in Venice Architecture Biennale (ecoMachines, 2008; The efData Grotto, 2010); Seville (STEMcloud, 2008), Istanbul (Fibrous Room, 2008), Milan (Aqva Garden, 2007), London (HORTUS 2012), in Paris (HORTUS.Paris 2013), in Orleans (Meta-folly 2013). Their latest research has been published in 2012 by Routledge in a book titled “Systemic Architecture”.

RSIII – Research Studio in Digital Tectonics – Fabrication Ecologies directed by Claudia Pasquero and Marco Poletto, is now traveling in Italy:

Day 1 // visit Lingotto and Arduino Lab in Turin.

Prof. Ostorero have accompanied the students to visit Lingotto building, the automobile factory built by Fiat, with its amazing rooftop test track, the Jean Prouve Exhibition and the Renzo Piano Bubble .

Day 2 // visit Pininfarina and Comau factories.

Day3 // visit Vyrus and Pagani.

Seminar: Material, Materiality and Material Systems

In Phase III of the Masters in Advanced Architecture students will continue to work on their final projects in their Research Studios and they will also attend three seminars that cover a wide variety of topics.

The Material Systems seminar will investigate the relationship between material, materiality and material systems in the realm of architecture. The method of investigation will involve discussion as well as digital and material experiment.

Architecture as a form of Material life

“When the matter of architecture is freed from the essentialist conception that considers it a formless entity regulated by transcendental geometric rules, forms and proportions, it suddenly acquires potential of self-organization and becomes generative. In this state matter can go far beyond the resolution of structural or constructive problems as it provides models for dealing with the complex feedback that occurs between multiple (and often contrasting) forces, like the ones operating in cities.

Our task as design explorers has been to breed these models by developing scaled material prototypes that operates as analogues computers when subjected to specific sets of structural and organizational principles, programmatic regimes and urban operational fields.”
These prototypes have been actualized in many series of projects, each exploring specific set of input parameters and actualizing in highly different urban contexts; among them the eco Machines series, prototypical architectures capable of systemic co-action with their users and within the local ecosystems”.
