Open Thesis Fabrication Presentations to the collaborating companies

The students of the Open Thesis Fabrication presented their projects to some of the collaborating companies (Imar-represented by Patxi Rubin , Escofet - represented by Enric Pericas, KUKA-represented by Oscar Pérez) . The represenatives of the companies at the same time had a conversation with Marta Malé-Alemany about the next steps of the collaboration of the Open Thesis Fabrication program and the industries.

Entering the facilities of Escofet.

Enric Pericas is explaining how the design of a bench can become more functionable and confortable, using as an example the ¨Blow Up¨ bench, a design by the architects Luis M.Mansilla and Emilio Tuñón.

Enric Pericas is demonstrating the new advanced concrete that can deliver very thin results. The design of this benches is by Cruz and Ortiz Architects.

The visit at Escofet appeard to be significant for the understanding of the manipulation of concrete for complex geometries. The students of the Open Thesis Fabrication with the guidance of Enric Pericas had the change to see first hand the production of interesting projects made by famous architects and get a general idea of how their being produced. As well they were introduced to the tecniques for a cutting-edge quality result.

Open Thesis Fabrication Lectures Series

The first week of the Open Thesis Fabrication introduced to the students the techniques and methods for the manipulation of different materials. Five leading companies,working in different materials each, presented their work, shared their knowledge and their unique results. The materials presented were glass, metal, concrete and wood. At the end the student had a deep perspective of the restrictions as well as the freedoms that each material can offer with an extended understanding of their performances in complex geometries. The companies that participated in the lecture series are : Cricursa / glass experts, Escofet/concrete experts , Imar /metal experts, Fupicsa and Finnforest/wood experts.
