Day 10 of the Global summer School in Barcelona marked the start of the Synthesis phase, then continued through day 11.

The idea is not to create scaled models representing concepts, but rather take forward certain parts of the team projects to prototype as proofs of concepts. Documentation of this work is being done through two products: 1) a dynamic scale model showing the generative strategy as distributed in Torre Baró and 2) a 1:1 ‘detail’ prototype showing the working energy apparatus to be distributed in the site.

For the development of this phase we have been joined by audio visual experts Ignacio de Juan Creix and Carlo Santi from TL3.

The 2014 Global Summer School on the Next City kicked off today. The morning session in Barcelona was opened with a tour of the Fab Lab Barcelona with Luis Fraguada, showing the diverse machines, and explaining and demonstrating how they function.

We then moved to the Auditorium where the St Petersburg location joined us in streaming for the IAAC Dean Manuel Gausa’s welcome words, as well as an introductory lecture by Luis, discussing what Advanced Architecture is, and what are its potentials towards the Next City. All the students and staff then presented themselves in a few short words.

After lunch, the group went to tour the Next City site in Torre Baró, where the workshop project will be implemented.
