In addition to developing the curricular direction for the Environmental Design department at Art Center College of Design, he has taught Fine Arts, Illustration, Graphics & Packaging, photography and Industrial design. Many of his students have gained significant global recognition for their efforts. His sponsored studios with Bernhardt design has defined a new model for how industry interfaces with education. He has been instrumental in the evolution of Art Center ’s International Study Abroad programs in Tokyo, Copenhagen, and Berlin and has worked closely with DesignMatters on Humanitarian projects for: GE Healthcare Africa project and Un Techo Para Chile “ Safe Water Chile, Peru & Columbia” He has been has been instrumental in the development of theGrauate & Under Graduate Environmental Design program at Art Center and it’s focus on “Designing Spatial Experience”. He has been an educational leader at Art Center since 1978.

Mocarski’s work is highly sculptural in nature, driven by research, content and context. He believes that design is “from the first moment of encounter to the last moment of interaction”. Whether it’s creating an object, a place or a destination, he feels that the outcome is always about providing a supreme experience and that the most effective design is always about: attraction, involvement, interaction & producing satisfaction and/or inclusion beyond expectation. He also believes that nothing is more compelling than engagement & surprise, whether t be in the design of objects or spaces. Mocarski is known for exploring new materials, technologies and manufacturing techniques in his search of meaningful solutions. What is clear in his work is a unrelenting passion for all things art and design.

Mocarski has exhibited his work internationally since 1971, first in fine arts and later with limited edition and commission furniture works. His mentors are the early modernists such as Carlo Mollino, Gerrit Rietveld, Jean Prouve and Eileen Gray. He has always held a strong commitment to the idea of bringing “Art into Life”.

ecoLogic Studio
Lecture: Ecology Beyond Nature

@ 19.30, IAAC Auditorium
Open to the Public

ECOLOGIC STUDIO

Claudia Pasquero and Marco Poletto are co-founders of ecoLogicStudio an architectural and urban design studio involved in digital design and architecture research for the definition of a new ecology of space and behavior.
Located in the east of London the studio has built up an international reputation for its innovative work on systemic design, a method defined by the combination and integration of systemic thinking, computational design, bio-hacking and digital prototyping. This broadened approach to design – ranging from the micro to the macro and from nanotechnologies to urban networks – is embodied into an experimental practice, where projects and installations become laboratories of interactions. Locally activated design protocols synthesize a form of expanded hyper-reality hacking larger organizational systems.Claudia Pasquero and Marco Poletto are active academics; they have been unit master at the Architectural Association in London, and are currently studio directors at the IAAC in Barcelona, as well as visiting critics at Cornell University.

Claudia is leader of the MArch in Urban Morphogenesis at Bartlett UCL and, with Marco, co-director of the BIO-UD Research Cluster at UCL Bartlett in London.
Their projects have been published and exhibited throughout the world, in particular in Venice Architecture Biennale (ecoMachines, 2008; The efData Grotto, 2010); Seville (STEMcloud, 2008), Istanbul (Fibrous Room, 2008), Milan (Aqva Garden, 2007), London (HORTUS 2012), in Paris (HORTUS.Paris 2013), in Orleans (Meta-folly 2013). Their latest research has been published in 2012 by Routledge in a book titled “Systemic Architecture”.

This Monday, March 18th, MAI Dialogues presents Pablo Valbuena & Jaime Serra talks. 19.00hs, IaaC Auditorium.

Pablo Valbuena has become internationally recognized for his augmented architectures, dynamic forms where light and phisical structures combine to create a new hybrid language for form and space. Trained as an architect and having worked previously in videogames, his art projects in galleries and public space interventions preludes the explosion of “projection mapping” as a technique and has been extensively exhibited worldwide.

Jaime Serra is one of the most important names in the field of infographics today. Currently head of graphics at La Vanguardia, his body of work goes beyond the conventions of graphics for journalism and enters into the territory of information visualization and even visual poetry. His work is currently being exhibited at Ars Santa Mónica.

The conference will be streaming LIVE from IaaC’s youtube channel.
