The suggestion that different footage took from the port gave to us was the notion of the border. Boundaries or limits are part of the natural and urban composition that could be considered as negotiators between elements and actions; flows and fixities. The perception of the border is predominant in a port. Besides the idea that a port is the limit between the water and the land, it also means political, urban, social and economic boundaries. </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt;text-align: justify;line-height: 14.25pt"><span style="font-size: 10pt;font-family: Arial, sans-serif">The concept of the first approach we developed from the site was a visual record of all the type of limits we found in the port. The waterfront is a limit between the land and the water that has been shaped through the time. Also we found important to refer Kevin Lynch description of borders: “Borders are linear elements</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt;text-align: justify;line-height: 14.25pt"><span style="font-size: 10pt;font-family: Arial, sans-serif">not used or considered as paths by the observer.They are the boundaries between two phases, linear breaks in the continuity. These border elements are for many people importan organizing featureas, particularly in the role of holding together generalized areas”. For us, this concept is very important in order to understand the image of borders that cities have and maybe rethink it.</span></p>

<p>The aim of this project was the exploration of the advantages of the FDM printing as a fabrication technique. For this exercise, it was developed a set of prototypes of joints for a mechanical assembly. The concept pursued was to give the structure the capacity to change in length. The design of the joints gave the final piece the ability to expand and retract. Basically there were used three variations of the same joint for the structure.</p>

<p style="text-align: left">This project was developed to explore the CNC milling processes through different digital designs, materials and tools. The material selected was the Valchromat (595 x 395 x 24) mm. For this exercise it was studied the design possibilities between Rhino and Rhino CAM in order to calibrate them with the milling machine. The concept used for the Valchromat, was to create soft curves that allows the interaction between the layers of the board.</p>

<p>The lamp project was developed using paper/cardboard with bending technique. The concept pursued through this project, was the pureness of the material and technique. Because of this reason, geometries were explored in order to give structure to the paper. Additionally, it was necessary a folded element to achieve the needed stability of the piece. Finally, the connection between the lamp and the electrical device was designed from the same geometry.</p>
