The aim of the seminar was to investigate the extreme possibilities of textile constructions and structures which make them possible. Starting from analyzing existing technologies, students studied the possibilities of building portable and packable pavilions.

Three models in a 1:1 scale and two models in 1:2 scale have been built and will be presented today at IaaC facilities with the collaboration of SERGE FERRARI and IASO

The aim of the seminar, leaded by Josep Miàs and Silvia Brandi, is to investigate the extreme possibilities of textile constructions and structures which make them possible. The seminar is a technological adventure which counts on the active collaboration of two sector leader enterprises in the field of textile construction:- SERGE FERRARI: an international producer of flexible composite materials and membranes of high performances for architecture.- IASO: a company specialized in the engineering and the assembling of uncommon textiles architectures with high technology features.

Josep Miàs - Architect_Escola Tècnica Superior d’Arquitectura de Barcelona, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya ETSAB_UPC_1992. From 1990 till 2000 worked with Enric Miralles as Associate Architect. In 2000, he founded his own studio, working in landscape, urban planning, architecture, interiors and industrial design. Underlined prizes are AJAC Best Young Architect Award 2004, Girona Architecture Award 2005, Girona Architecture Award 2007, City of Barcelona Architecture and Urbanism Award 2007, Catalonia Construction Award 2009, Architecture Aplus Award 2011 and Building of the Year 2011 Award. Work and writings published in international magazines and books, and work exhibited in Barcelona, Madrid, París, Frankfurt, Zurich, Berlín, Kiev, London and Venice. Professor in Architecture and Urbanism in ETSAB, ETSAV, La Salle and ESARQ_Barcelona; Bartlett UCL_London_UK, UNISS_Alghero_Italy, Stadelschule_Frankfurt_GNY and Harvard GSD_USA. Lecturer and guest critic in a large number of International Universities. Currently, Professor at the ETSAB_Barcelona, UNISS_Alghero and Bartlett_UCL _London.

Silvia Brandi - She studied architecture at Politecnico di Milano and ETSAB (Barcelona). In 2004 she graduated with honors with a thesis about transformation of Alps landscape (Paolo Aldeghieri Award) and she wins a scholarship to develop a urban project at POSTECH University in South Korea. She works in Milan with Stefano Boeri and from 2006 she is settled in Barcelona where she is part of IAAC staff as responsible of the publication Self-Sufficient Housing, ed. ACTAR – IAAC (2006). From 2006 she works with Josep Miàs in the international architectural firm MiAS Architects as Head Architect. She has lead several project, most notably new iGuzzini Headquarters in Barcelona (Archdaily Building of the year and WAF2012 Shortlisted), Rubí Market Refurbishment and public space, Tibidao Puppet theatre. She has been co-editor of various publications, such as the monographic book about iGuzzini building ed. ACTAR Birkhauser, and has cured exhibitions about MiAS Architects work. Since 2006 she also collaborates with Josep Miàs in architecture academicals courses at ETSAB (Barcelona) and at UNISS (Sassari) and she is invited from various international Institutions to give lectures about MiAS Architects works. From 2012 she is back to IAAC as Academic Coordinator.

This seminar aims to investigate the extreme possibilities of textile constructions and structures which make them possible. The seminar is a technological adventure which counts on the active collaboration of two sector leader enterprises in the field of textile construction:
- SERGE FERRARI: international producer of flexible composite materials and membranes of high performances for architecture.
- IASO: enterprise specialized in the engineering and the assembling of uncommon textiles architectures with high technology features.

During the seminar we will experiment the possibilities of the flexible composite materials and the technologies related to those, in order to set up a competition where the students will propose their own pavilion, producing a 1 m3 model. The winning proposal will be developed in detail during the course, its components will be fabricated in FABLAB and the pavilion will be assembled during an intensive weekend workshop. During the opening party all the competition models will be exposed in the pavilion, to show alternative and infinite possibilities.
