<p>We started the design with the “Indian Jali” (Lattice Screen) as our inspiration. The Jali is a perforated stone screen consisting of intricate ornamental work using complex geometrical shapes and connections.</p>

<p>We started playing around with different geometrical shapes on a 2D plane. Various juxtapositions of basic geometric shapes were used to create a complex pattern. Keeping the water flow in mind, we further developed the design into an organic one.</p>

<p>The concept of a Jali and the river were merged to form the final piece. The negative of the screens were used for the solid surface and the positive was used for the water channels.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p style="text-align: left">The design was generated keeping just one tile in mind rather than a whole, reason being- to not have a pre-defined pattern and maintaining a sense of mystery. The organic fluidity of the plane further enabled us to achieved the irregular spatial pattern.</p>

<p>The Lotus Flower it’s a kinetic and dynamic structure.</p>
<p>The goal of the exercise was to producing 3d printed pieces and explore the design opportunities arising from the potential and limitations of the technology to create a dynamic assembly with 2mm diameter rods linked together by 3d printed pieces.</p>

<p>Our idea was to design just one joint. This joint should had the capabilities of generate through the connections between themselves and with the help of the elastic nature of the tubes in order to form two geometrical moments, one that’s goes up and another one than goes to the sides.</p>
<p>The dynamic nature of the joint allows a level of movement between the rods themselves in a translation system by moving the rods in to a circle to move within itself and transfigure into a bigger or smaller structure.</p>

<p>Ece Tankal &#8211; Akanksha Rathee &#8211; Dhwani Patel</p>
<p>The simple module unit is designed to create a curvilinear structure with linear wooden elements. Each unit comes together to form circles of eight or ten with joints possible in multiple dimensions. These unit circles create numerous possibilities of iterations with a vertical stacking of spheres. The curves can be manipulated in two half circles joined in opposite directions to increase the flexibility of experimentation.</p>
<p>We tested the stability of the structure through multiple options and the final result is a balance between the height and weight distribution of the spheres. The resulting structure is extremely light and is supported only by 4 laser cut pieces. This also gives us the advantage of reaching a larger height with less material because of the porous nature of the design.</p>
