The spheres have been placed using a continuous pattern of grouped circles in a way that they don’t have a specified center when connected across larger surface. The channeling corridors are varied according to the neighboring tile so the water can be distributed equally within a larger assembly.

A single mould of polyurethane has been produced using CNC Milling machine. The form was covered with sealant and heated vaseline in order to avoid damage of pattern while removing concrete block from the mould. The mix of concrete consisted of cement, aggregate, accelerator and water. Further on hot water was used to remove remaining vaseline and to finish oil has been applied to polish the surface of the mould.

The idea of our system was to create a repetitive movement for semi-spheral modules that are tuning 360 degrees around x axes. Each sphere consists of 4 fiberglass ropes that act like an engine for the neighborhood module, the structure is put into motion only by moving 1 element.

Due to repetive parts the structure has possibility of endless connection and continious movement.

We used fiberglass ropes for connection to 3d printed joints. Some of them were fixed in a middle of ropes to catch/push neighbor unit of structure and rotate it.

We used 5 different kind of static joints, but after assembling them we created dynamic structure. As the base for the whole system served the board 600×600 mm.

The assignment was to build a tower, tall, freestanding, with no extra elements, using four 840x400mm 3mm thick Plywood sheets.

The initial thought process was to achieve height by eliminating vertical elements and reducing the amount of wastage of material. To create stabilitiy and variation a “RING MODULE” with 5 nodal points was designed which could be generated 2 on each board. The remaining material was designed to be the “DIAMOND CONNECTORS” connecting the horizontal rings.

The concept was to discover the possibilities of the plywood, by testing the limits and methods in terms of flexibility and the effects of tension on the wood’s fibers. To be able to handle the circular tension, a locking mechanism was designed allowing the horizontal loops and vertical repetition of modules. Techniques such as soaking in water and letting the modules dry in their bent form helped us to reach the design objective.
