We5 - manual-0_Page_01

The main aim for the wind machine is to start a production cycle of plants, which can be used in the daily life of Valldaura.

The wall is producing energy with windturbines. The energy is used for pumping water to the crops. The machine uses waste products from the house in the form of grey water and compost.

The structure is built out of hemp, which the plantation can grow.In this way the production cycle is a living cycle itself.

Initial Approach

To understand the possibilities and capabilities of a wind machine, we started a research process that does not stop up to date.

Understanding the wind as a resource for energy, as well as understanding the theory of power and electricity was part of our starting point.

As part of the same research we explore the differences between HAWT and VAWT and its implications; advantages and disadvantages.

Studio “Wind energy machines” visit to the experimental wind labs of TechnoWind

Today the MAA students of the Introductory Studio “Wind energy machines” Tutored by Javier Peña, Rodrigo Rubio, Oriol Carrasco and Stefanos Levidis have visited the experimental wind labs of TechnoWind, located in Sant Guim de Freixenet (Lleida).

Alvaro Ibañez and Josep Maria Pujol showed us the instalations that Technowind use to test their windmills, Technowind by Ficosa Renovables is a young company that offer energy solutions, specialized in hybrid systems composed by solar panel and windmills. The headquarters are located in in Rubí (Barcelona), where they design and fabricate vertical axis windmills .

In Sant Guim de Freixenet, the group has the i+D lab, where they test the new models of wind turbines and new prototypes with different solutions in design . The biggest windmill that is being tested in the wind lab is able to generate 5Kw without any kind of noise.

The visit ended under a horizontal axis wind turbine that allowed students to realize and understand one of the most important concepts of the introductory studio: energy scales.

ATMOSPHERIC RIVER

ATMOSPHERIC RIVERATMOS3

Atmospheric River is an arrangement which utilises the wind energy to provide a farm land with its two basic necessities, namely electricity and water. To capture energy from wind,  we have to ketch it by getting the structure in contact with the air and everything within it, especially the water content.

From this thought has developed most of our design, which is based on the combination of functions. For generating electricity we’ve used  a wind mill and for providing water we have  used  fog- catcher.
