Aquaponics is a combination of Aquaculture (fish farming) and Hydroponics (the soil-less growing of plants). The process of Aquaponics is a natural interaction between fish and the plants.
The fish are first fed and the resulting fish excrement makes the waste water rich in nutrients. This water is then pumped from the fish tank to the roots of plants. Micro-bacteria convert the waste nutrients into helpful nutrients. The roots absorb these nutrients, thereby purifying the water. This water is then pumped back into the fish tank. The process continues in this cycle.
