This prototype explores the potential of unfolding/folding of a series of surfaces by manipulating a flexible rod at its base. The challenge lay at developing a response for all the surfaces when force is applied on the rod at a singular point and understanding the joint between the surfaces for an even perpendicular formation.
We particularly had to look into the material response. Thorough experiments were done into applying the right material which is float-able and has the correct strenth to take weight. Therefore the material experiments including light weight wood, mdf and pvc surfaces. The final material chosen was an extremely light yet stable polyeutherene foam , which is extremely close to the actual material (eps foam ) to be used on the site.
This workshop gave us an insight to develop the pattern generated on the surfaces in accordance with the pedestrian movement.
