POSITIONS

GALAPAGOS RESPONSE
Evolutionary Computing is the collective name for a range of problem-solving techniques based on principles of biological evolution, such as natural selection and genetic inheritance.
HEMP BEHAVIOURS – SIMULATING TRAJECTORY
Speculative formation of natural path. A set of agents and attractors deforms hemp fibers in order to aggregates hitself and creates a fibrous connection in the space following the rules of attraction and repulsion. Forces are also applied to determinate the behaviours and simulating possible trajectories of the fibers. The drawing made with kangaroo describes the start fibers lines, the possible result and the final fibrous result.
VISUALIZATION
Through Galapagos we were able to identify two points on a surface created with Kangaroo. These two points have specfic characteristics regarding the altitude respect the xy plane, the inclination of the surface, its curvature and the distance from a point with coordinates x, y, z in the geometric space. These points were then placed in connection: one is the start point and the other one is the end of the path. The goal of the exercise is find the minimum path. Through two types of research we have been identied two minimal paths.

MIMIC FORMS GENERATIONS

While the scale of the project get larger to be designing and planing cities, the main problem that architects could face is the repetitive elements in the residential units, same forms and shapes, in time the elements should contain different sizes and many types to break the routine.

Like a primary idea, starting with only 3 different geometries, that it’s surrounded by 3 bounding boxes,  Galapocous give us the opportunity to create generations and test what it could be the best relations between units, best position and the right balanced scale, to develop it later to be a parametric layer in the city with unique forms.
