CNC Milling Machine I Brick I Group-6

The exercise focuses on casting of bricks using a mould which has been fabricated with the help of a CNC Milling Machine. This exercise helps us to explore the ways in which this tool is helpful to create variations in the size/shape/texture of the brick.

Inspiration for this particular texture has been taken from Wood. The final aim of the exercise was to construct a three-dimensional wall in Iaac building using these textured bricks. This variation in textures can be felt with the sense of Touch and the wall gives us the opportunity to feel the same.

Branching I Brick Proposal I Group-6

The brick system is inspired from the natural system of “branching” as in a tree. In order to achieve this, the brick has been kept very simple. The brick takes its shape from the “Triangle” which is considered to be the most stable polygon. Joinery works on the principles of interlocking. This gives us flexibility in the ways two bricks can be joined to each other. As a result of which we get small brick systems which are a part of a bigger Brick System. These smaller brick systems give us the opportunity to create variations in the porosity of the Wall.
