Advanced Structures Workshop

During the last weekend, IAAC students participated in the Advanced Structures Workshop, leaded by Manja van de Worp and framed in the Advanced Structures Seminar. The workshop consisted in applying all the mechanisms and tools (Karamba) learned in the four days in which the Advanced Structures Seminar took place. The whole Saturday and Sunday, the students developed different research studies, in which the main aim was to clearly understand the behavior of an Advanced Structures. To reach this goal, students applied a  constantly switching methodology between a physical model approach and a virtual model approach. On Sunday night students presented the results of their research in front of a jury composed by several teachers and specialists in the Advanced Structures field.

MATAERIAL – IAAC OTF project by Saša Jokić and Petr Novikov in collaboration with Joris Laarman Studio

IAAC Students developed this amazing projet within the IAAC OTF program: MATAERIAL, the revolution in 3d printing! Also published in DEZEEN.

MATAERIAL is the result of the collaborative research between Petr Novikov, Saša Jokić from the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) and Joris Laarman Studio. IAAC tutors representing Open Thesis Fabrication Program provided their advice and professional expertise. During the course of the research we developed a brand new digital fabrication method and a working prototype that can open a door to a number of practical applications. The method that we call Anti·gravity Object Modeling has a patent-pending status.”  Saša Jokić and Petr Novikov

APPLICATIONS FOR IAAC GLOBAL SUMMER SCHOOL ARE NOW OPEN!

IAAC Global Summer School 2013

IAAC Global Summer School seeks to investigate common agendas in global locales.
IGSS 2013 will take place in 12 sites simultaneously under the common theme of Productive City.

2013 GSS – Agenda:
PRODUCTIVE CITY

The production of energy, food, knowledge, and objects are key elements which establish the basic necessities to create self-sufficient habitats. The 2013 Edition of the IAAC GSS wants to address the challenges and opportunities which exist in our urban environments with regards to the production of these elements.

As with each Global School, a multiscalar, and multi-site approach will be utilized to explore how the agenda unfolds with the particular economic, biological, and social factors of each locale.

-At the urban scale, we will identify potential productive regions in our urban habitats.

-At the building scale we will reconstruct a ‘smart city block,’ capable of producing and mitigating its production to and from the city.

-At the tectonic scale we will explore productive facade systems which are responsive to their location and local necessities.

The 2013 IAAC GSS seeks to generate a series of fabricated prototypes which address the agenda through multiple scales.

APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN
