Tonight IaaC welcomed Enric Ruiz Geli lecture “It’s all about particles” within the Spring IaaC Lectures. During the event, Enric Ruiz Geli explained his concept of architecture through some projects that he developed with his office Cloud 9. Buildings like “Villa Nurbs”, “Once…a wave” or the “Hotel Prestige Forest” have a total digital background that allows the architect to conceive and produce the building avoiding traditional constraints. Beside this important fact, Enric understands the environment as particles conformed by different chemical elements (Co2, Ho2…), and face every project trying to unfold an architectonical answer through this idea of particles, that becames not only a visualisation tool but also and specially a production tool.
Enric Ruiz Geli is going to lecture at IAAC on the 16th of April within the IAAC Lecture Series – 2012-2013 Spring Term: “It’s all about particles”

Today Manuel Gausa presented the tale of Beauty and the Beast as a paradigm of dualities.
The lecture was presented in four parts:
I. DUALITIES AND DICHOTOMIES: DIVISIONS, OPPOSITIONS AND CONTRAPOSITIONS
II. A RECURSIVE DIAGRAM: LOST PARADISE, LATENT PARADISE, FORBIDDEN PARADISE, THE LOST PARADISE / THE LALTENT PARADISE/ THE FORBIDDEN PARADISE (OR THE HELL)
III. HYBRID SCENARIOS: COUPLING, HYBRIDIZATION AND PARADOXES IN ARCHITECTURE AND THE CONTEMPORARY CITY
IV. RETURNING TO…BEAUTY AND/IS THE BEAST…A HYBRID UNIVERSE.
Amazing lecture by Dave Pigram and Max Maxwell yesterday night at IAAC. Dave and Max are now running a workshop with IAAC Students titled Negociated Formations:
Lecture: Negotiated Formation // Supermanoeuvre
For the last 7 years supermanoeuvre [Iain Maxwell and Dave Pigram] have been vigorously pursuing and developing methodologies that increase the number and quality of feedback relations between design and making: design intent, matter and the methods of production. The pursuit has taken the form of commissioned and speculative projects, technical research and experimentation.
Supermanoeuvre believes that form is the primary instrument through which architecture engages the world. Through their own project work and selected historical examples, supermanoeuvre will articulate an expanded and operative understanding of ‘formation’ through the lenses of computational design and advanced fabrication.
