Pre-Columbian Tile

 We started looking for inspirational graphics that allowed us to generate a pattern according to the constraints.

A design based on abstract diagrams and Pre-Columbian mythological animals is our model to explore and create that unknown connection between multiple tiles, as in tile Dali, our example as a starting point.

Having a mosaic depicting a suggestive shape, but the uncertainty of what the shape is going to be after the accommodation of the tiles is a mental-unexpected game product of the positioning and abstraction.

Underwater

DSC_3842 schemeThe exploration of the natural forms in the Catalan Modernism has been conceived with the water. In this tile the flow becomes both form and function. The organic form and natural topography seem to be the results of the natural shaping process the sea water produces by touching upon the sand bed. The topography of the tile represents the dualism between liquid and solid: what was once a product of the water flow now is the pathway which drives the water to some constrained estuaries. Tile by tile the continuos and smooth submarine environment takes form within the water and sand.

Our inspiration is simple, since we are in the city of Gaudi, we chose one famous work of Gaudi in Parc Guell : the Chameleon.
And because of the shape of the tile we are going to make is in hexagon,
we tried to achieve a design that comprised of continuous lines and shape, for the tile to be able to rotate to connect with another around.

The idea of our system was to create a repetitive movement for semi-spheral modules that are tuning 360 degrees around x axes. Each sphere consists of 4 fiberglass ropes that act like an engine for the neighborhood module, the structure is put into motion only by moving 1 element.

Due to repetive parts the structure has possibility of endless connection and continious movement.
