Fab Academy Presentations

On Wednesday, 1 June, Fab Academy 2011 program presented their projects for an Open House at the Fab Lab BCN in IAAC.

Over the Fab Lab video conference network, 15 Labs from around the world shared the last 6 months of projects from Circuit production to Furniture design. More than 8 countries such as Iceland, Kenya, the Netherlands, Spain or United States participated in the second edition of the newly created academy, directed by Neil Gershenfeld and supported by the Fab Lab Network.

Arduino Workshop

This week MAA students from the Emergent Territories and Self Sufficient Buildings Development Studios took part in a workshop that gave an introduction to arduino, showing how it works, the connections that you can use, and the functionality of such things as light sensors, temperature sensors, and small motors that you can connect to the arduino board. This workshop will help the students make their interactive studio model for the final presentations at the end of this month.

Digital Tectonics Midterm Reviews

In Final Phases of the Masters in Advanced Architecture program students attend one of three Research Studios: Self-Sufficient Buildings, Digital Tectonics or Emergent Territories. At the end of Phase II MAA Students presented their initial proposals. Throughout Phase III they will refine this research for their final presentations.

On Tuesday, the Digital Tectonics studio presented to their projects for review by MAA Co-Director Marta Malé-Alemany as well as IAAC Staff Victor Viña and Brian Peters.

Development Studios Midterm Reviews

In Final Phases of the Masters in Advanced Architecture program students attend one of three Research Studios: Self-Sufficient Buildings, Digital Tectonics or Emergent Territories. At the end of Phase II MAA Students presented their initial proposals. Throughout Phase III they will refine this research for their final presentations. Last week, MAA Students in the Emergent Territories and Self Sufficient Buildings Development Studios had midterm reviews of their final projects.

The Emergent Territories studio, run MAA Co-Director Willy Müller, presented to an outside jury consisting of Bostjan Vuga from SADAR+VUGA and Miguel Roldán from Roldán + Berengué as well as studio assistant Maite Bravo and Luis Fraguada, IAAC staff.

The Self Sufficient Buildings Studio, run by IAAC Director Vicente Guallart and Javier Peña, presented to a jury which also included Bostjan Vuga as well as, studio assistant, Rodrigo Rubio.

IAAC Students in Smart Urban Stage

The Smart Urban Stage exhibition in Barcelona (open until 13 June) features the work of IAAC MAA Students. The projects featured are the work of two groups: “Sustainable Tourism in Barcelona” by Laura Molina Arauju (Dominican Rebulic), Harshad Sutar (India), Gamze Gunduz (Turkey), Julian Hilebrand (Germany), Antigoni Anastasopoulou (Greece) and “Urban Community Farming” by Andres Briceno (Chile), Ohad Meyuhas (Israel), Siddhesh Kale (India), Jesus Armando Zabala (Venezuela).

The goal of Smart Urban Stage is to share information and first-hand reports about the smart urban stage and the “future of the city” and to connect with creative heads and smart fans from around the world and to invite you to our smart urban stage that will visit Amsterdam, London, Milan, Barcelona, Cologne and Frankfurt/Main in 2011.
