As part of the IAAC Spring Lecture series, tonight we had the pleasure of hearing about the potentials and thoughts of Mitchell Joachim, Terreform ONE, regarding synthetic biology in design. Earlier this year Digital Matter | Intelligent Constructions research studio visited Terreform ONE in New York, a non-profit design group that promotes and redefines smart design in cities, as part of their research trip.
During the lecture Mitchell illustrated how through their creative projects and outreach efforts, they illuminate the environmental possibilities of New York City and inspire solutions in areas like it around the world. Terreform ONE is a unique laboratory for scientists, artists, architects, students, and individuals of all backgrounds to explore and advance the larger framework of green design. The group develops innovative solutions and technologies for local sustainability in energy, transportation, infrastructure, buildings, waste treatment, food, water, synthetic biology, and media spaces; all illustrated throughout the lecture.
