Introductory Studio presentation

BCN is worldwide known by its traditionally innovative dedication to urbanism and public space.
Following up the research carried out by the IAAC in the last few years in relation to city neighbourhoods and their self-sufficiency, and superblocks and mobility, this IS is now addressing the question of the public space and its intelligence.

Juan Blanco, Cisco’s business development director for the mediterranean region, presented the company’s focus on the new “internet of the things” field showing how information technologies and intelligence integration are being embeded in daily life, and how this trend could lead next major urban transformations.

Vicente Guallart, nowadays holding the Barcelona Chief Architect possition, presented the municipality City Protocol plan, a huge worldwide cities agreement aiming to reach standards and regulations to drive global strategies to make cities more efficient and selfsufficient. Guallart exposed also his vision for the City Anatomy, based on previous Hyperhabitat IAAC research.
