FAB10 // THE ENDESA WORLD FAB CONDENSER

anim

Help us build the new Solar Pavilion during Fab10!

How can we capture the vastness of the world into one room, one single space that draws from multiple locations? How can we create that space so it could condense, represent and group a global network of Fabbers? And, furthermore, how could we do this collaboratively so people can plug, add, customize, propose, build, embed their designs and ideas into it?

The Endesa World Fab Condenser attempts to provide that space. It is designed to capture principles, ideas and people around the Fab Lab Network. It is a small, digitally fabricated pavilion that would serve as landmark of the Fab Lab community in the FAB 10 Symposium in Barcelona. It is a pavilion, but at the same moment is a collaborative performance, a party of fabrication where the final result would be equally important than the actual fabrication and construction phase.

Initial design by Margen-Lab, produced by IAAC and collaborative designed, build, and customized by the FabLab Network.

FAB10 // FAB CAR making of

Fab Car is a collaborative project towards the implementation of a modular car. The basic structure of the car has been designed and built in the Fab Lab Barcelona, and will be exhibited at Fab10 from the 2nd to the 8th of July 2014.

Don’t miss out on your chance to take part in the Fab Car project: find the Fab Car space at Fab10 where you will be invited to add your touch and work on the project!

You will be helping create customizable, modular pods that can be slotted onto the chassis of our open source vehicle: the FabCar. In collaboration with HP, OpenSource Vehicle and 5 other FabLabs around the world (Garagem FabLab (SP. Brasil), FabLab San Diego, FabCafe Tokyo, FaLab Manchester and Vigyam Ashram in India) FabLab Barcelona is setting out to design a concept car based on the needs and desires of the FabLab and Maker communities.

The chassis of the FabCar is being built out of composite material developed by the team specifically for the project and composed of bamboo and burlap bonded with eco friendly Entropy Resins epoxy solution, donated by their European distributor, Ferrer-Dalmau.

PRACTISE FABRICATION // Brick Works Thin-Tile Vault Seminar // BOVEDA

IaaC, in collaboration with Map13 Architects: Marta Domenech, David Lopez, Mariana Palumbo, and BLOCK Research Group, ETH Zurich, have finalized the Parametrized Catalan Vault, fruit of a 2 week-long workshop where a team of 27 Students designed and constructed a thin-tile vault in our forest campus in Valldaura.

Advanced digital tools along with traditional century-old Catalan masonry techniques will be deployed in the process, with students seeking to re-engineer, compute, and eventually construct a Vault in the forest.

IaaC is also furthering this research investigating in the field of advanced robotic fabrication techniques towards the implementation and automization of these complex catalan vault forms.

Special thanks to Areti Markopoulou, Lucas Cappelli and Ioan Pribagu for the final outcome!
