Q Valldaura Workshop Land 2012

In recent years, IAAC has developed different workshops in the natural environment in order to experience the relationship between architecture and nature.

Can Valldaura will become IAAC’s second campus and is located in Collserola Park, the centre of the metropolitan area. The second campus will be a large park for innovation that will feature the latest technologies in digital manufacturing.
Innovative activities, educational programmes and experiments related to green architecture, nature, sustainability and energy will be held in Valldaura.

Q Valldaura Workshop Land is a series of workshops with different actions that can be developed in the countryside, including learning :  the manufacturing process of wood, from felling a tree, to the use of wood in digital manufacturing or contribution to the creation of an ecosystem with the construction of home for birds, rabbits …

#2_S7 MATTER, MATERIALITY AND MATERIAL ORGANIZATION IN ARCHITECTURE v2.0

The structure is growing day by day by adding new connection points, lines and fibers. The main space is becoming more and more dense every hour. Dynamism, movement, team-work and lots of fun are some words that can describe what is going on these days at IAAC. The students worked on the structure design and the connections with the existing furniture. Whole institute is involved in this project. Some vegetation prototypes, for small and big plants, are being fabricated in the FabLab. The different designs will be developed and they will use the laser cutter machine to fabricate and then assemble them.

S7 MATTER, MATERIALITY AND MATERIAL ORGANIZATION IN ARCHITECTURE v2.0

The First day of the seminar workshop Matter, Materiality and material system started. The Tutor Claudia Pasquero (Director Ecologic studio) with the assistance of Andrea Bugli (Ecologic studio) had their introductory session were they explained with details the objectives of the workshop to the MAA students. The workshop operates as a machinic protocol for the synthesis of the PALACE whose ”rooms” coagulate from raw materials, organizational principles, individual experience as well as group coordination, all in real- time. The construction process runs as a cultivation experiment, rigorously in 1:1, from digital diagrams to prototyping and installation. Loop after loop the protocol  will unfold non-stop in a marathon lasting 3 days and involving 5 groups of 6-7 students each, working in shifts for a total of 891 man*hours of cultivation. Relentless manufacturing, layering, testing, playing, discussing [with readings of Cedric Price’s original Fun Palace], resting and back again another loop, another group breeding new material articulation and programmatic differentiation. No undoing is possible, only more overlaying, incorporation, negotiation with what is already there.
