MAI Smart Net Studio presentation

The MAI students presented the Smart Net Studio Project that they have been developing during the december and january. The 6 groups of students proposed each one an intervention based in the Fablab “smart citizen” project. The work was presented in front of the tutors that have been leading the students research, and in front of the jury, composed by different experts related to the fields of interaction, economy and engineering.

ADVANCED ARCHITECTURE THEORY COURSE – Mediators / translators vs talk show guest

After the duet theory lecture from last week, the reflection on the contemporary architect’s figure and the new professional roles of the mediating architect continues today, with-in the Advanced Architecture Theory Course lead by  Manuel Gausa, Ricardo Devesa and Amadeu Santacana.

With some seemingly innocent questions on the Architect Mediator we aimed to establish a strong position.
What is the architect’s position nowadays?
Between what information is it located?
What exactly does this translate into?

Through the presentation of post-tweets, an intellectual positioning from non conventional routes of theory, we mapped out what, collectively, we feel is an architect today, generating an intense debate around this theme.

The map revealed diverse individual concepts (post-tweets) that cluster around common themes (selected keywords) forming densities of ideas and generating an overall view, and our answer to those seemingly innocent questions.

Fab Academy 2013 has started!

The Fab Academy 2013 started this Wednesday, 9am Boston, 3pm Barcelona, 11pm Tokyo. More than 120 students from 24 different Fab Labs in the world are participating in one of the most complete courses in the principles, applications and implications of digital fabrication. The Fab Academy is structured in different units dedicated to different processes of digital fabrication, from the design of a circuit board, the fabrication of large structures, to code applications for your computer. The course is structured through a final project that every student needs to develop and present at the end of the semester.
